...look very spooky and gloomy though. The basement corridor and rooms particularly so. However, we would love to explore and found a walk-in safe off one of the rooms – I think this is where they kept the family silver. All the rooms seemed to have a smaller room off them and it was a great place to play hide and seek! Halfway up the spiral staircases were store rooms (to one side) with slatted shelves for keeping the linen and towels to hand for the servants. ...The typewriter keys clattered away as Viv wrote her story. It was coming along nicely and she was feeling pleased with herself. The attic room that she and her brothers had made into their ‘den’ was ideal for getting away from everybody and having some peace and quiet and she quite forgot about the time as she lost herself in the plot.
