...became a rectory.  The header picture is a painting of the house, which somebody gave to us. My brother Piers' Christening - the Billiard Room   The manor stood on the London Road and nearby were other large properties of a similar age, namely The Dower House, Shardlow House and Shardlow Hall.  The village itself is mainly 18th and 19th century; however, there are a few older properties from the 1400s and I think there is evidence of a Roman settlement nearby.  The River Trent ran near to the village and in 1770 a canal was built and it seems that there was a thriving river port there at one time with a bustling community of boat-builders, rope walks...

...ennels, a rectory and a staff clubhouse. King Edward also made Sandringham one of the best sporting estates in England where he held numerous shooting parties.
