...mes for a midnight swim!  Usually their parents were away so we were never disturbed.  Once we had been to a fancy dress party where Kev had dressed up as a knight with tights and tabard on – these were abandoned at the side of the pool where our friend’s gardener found them next day.  Apparently he took our friend to one side and whispered “I think your young lady has left these behind”.  His face must have been a picture when Carl said “Oh no, those are Kev’s!” The pool parties were great fun and once we’d dried ourselves off we headed for the house to find some food and then to wash it down with lashings of champagne, courtesy of our frie...

...n time at midnight, so he was whizzing the hands round all night long!  Alexandra Meynell’s father, Lord Killearn also got involved by devising anagrams for one of the dance routines along with a local man, Paul Yukes.  Kev and I were in control of the sound and we did tape recordings of the whole show which were sold afterwards to raise a bit more money (we still have one tape left!).  Everyone gave of their time freely and it was great fun to be involved. ‘ATV Today’ cameras were present for the dress rehearsal and a clip of three or four minutes on the television no doubt helped to boost the ticket sales.  The pantomime was on for three nights and...

...much. At midnight we had a Scottish piper who would walk down the Long Gallery in full Scottish regalia complete with bagpipes to pipe in the new year. Once this was done everyone would sing Auld Lang Syne and then my dad would release a net full of balloons onto the crowd and everyone would set off their party poppers.   Kev and I at a New Years Eve Ball   Gavin’s birthday was New Year’s Day so he was allowed to come down just before midnight and everyone would sing Happy Birthday to him.
