However, I think this made him more determined to prove himself and he did make a success of his life, first running an alabaster business and employing men who had been disabled in the war, then motor racing and buying Hoar Cross Hall to display his large collection of arms and armour. Not everyone was so fortunate though, which is why we remember them this weekend on Remembrance Day - lest we forget.
