...o we were happy to go on special occasions. However, the people that attended the church were all incredibly old (or so it seemed to us) and very posh and well spoken so for some reason this would set our minds to impish thoughts! We decided to swap all the sandwiches round one time, putting different tops to different bottoms; we also licked all the ‘cream’ out of the custard creams and other similar type biscuits then put them back together on the plates. We would watch with great delight from a short distance away while old men and ladies in fancy hats munched on their biscuits totally oblivious to what we had just done!

...n’t too happy and one time started shouting at her in front of everyone, which was a bit embarrassing! The next day, when cleaning up, we would find all sorts of things which people had left behind: scarves, perfume, a £1 note, cigarettes and even a set of false teeth left on the mantelpiece! I had found a little hidey hole in the wooden panelling in the Long Gallery; a small 6” square door which pushed open when pressed in the right place and I would keep things in there which I found – especially the cigarettes!

However, the evening soon livened up and guests were dancing to the band which happened to be Kev’s band this year. They seemed to go down well and looked completely different in their dinner jackets, even though they still wore long hair!

When the buffet was served later on the caterers put all the food out at once but there weren’t enough people around to staff it properly. The first guests that went up to help themselves took platefuls of food away so by the time the rest of the guests got their food there was hardly anything left! This nearly caused a riot and my poor dad ended...More Tea Vicar? #12
