Trains became longer with ribbons and bows all over them until in the 1880s a movement called the ‘Victorian dress reform’ tried to advocate simpler styles, no tightlacing and lightweight underwear, so clothes would be more comfortable and practical. Ladies’ pursuits such as cycling and tennis were also becoming popular which demanded a greater ease in movement in clothing. Of course, it did come eventually but we still had to wait another couple of decades or so before ladies could be more free to move! And this era was the roaring twenties when women cut their hair, raised their hemlines and flattened their chest...
