The Queen's grandparents, King George V and Queen Mary went on many tours of England including Yorkshire, Derbyshire and the West Midlands, visiting mines and factories. It seems that Alexandra enjoyed photography as a hobby and in 1908 put together an album of her personal photos to be sold for charity. This is the album that I found in the Library of Hoar Cross Hall - perhaps Queen Mary brought it as a gift when she visited in the 1920s? In it are photos of King Edward VII and other royals spending time at Balmoral and Sandringham during their holidays – a rare insight into how the royal family spent their leisure time, which in those days would never have been seen before.

He became Prince of Wales in 1958 and his investiture was in 1969 at Caernarfon Castle in Wales. Over the years he has been involved in many charities with a particular interest in climate change. He founded the youth charity the Princes Trust in 1976 and also owns and runs the Duchy of Cornwall estates.
