And then, just as we were on our knees to receive the blessing, Chris Meek (my dad’s old racing driver) walked in with a beautiful model on his arm. She was wearing a short cheesecloth dress and with the sun behind her it was completely see through! Anyone who remembers the Lady Di photo will know what I mean! We heard a sharp intake of breath as the whole congregation turned to face the door – talk about upstaging...

...from the Bible. His daughter Dorothy Meynell would play the organ. The servants were all expected to attend as well as the family and on Sundays they would go across to the church which was situated nearby. However, the family would walk from the back door of the house leading off the Garden Hall and follow the path down to the church while the servants were expected to walk around the boundary of the grounds to avoid being seen by the family.
We changed the name of the Garden Hall to the Chapel Hall when we were there as this corridor led to the chapel at one end and was the only room that the visitors could enter. At the other end of the corridor was...Here comes the bride (Part 2)
