And so, these two families seem to have been intertwined for many generations. Prior to the marriage of Hugo and Emily Meynell Ingram, plans were apparently being drawn up to build a magnificent property at Hoar Cross to which they would settle. They say that the Hall was a copy of one wing of Temple Newsam and if you look at the header picture there is definitely a resemblance in the style. At the time of their marriage they were living in Old Hall nearby with two of Hugo's sisters, a situation which caused a rift in the family, as the sisters became jealous of the much younger Emily.

My dad agreed to take the parrot as settlement believing he could make a profit on him as parrots were worth quite a lot of money back then – however, he never got sold as my dad became quite attached to him; perhaps he thought it would keep him company when Gavin was at school. I had pretty much left home now, returning at weekends and Piers lived with my mum, so we were all in different parts of the house – good job it’s a big place I hear you say!
