...nt to the 76 Club though to see live music – it was the start of the punk era and we saw the Sex Pistols there when they were just starting out – I have to say they didn’t get a very good reception as they couldn’t even start the first song properly and were actually booed off stage which was a ‘first’ for that Club. Their ‘punk’ behaviour almost started a riot in what was normally a peaceful hippy venue! However, their album 'Anarchy in the UK' was actually recorded live from the 76 Club so our clapping is recorded forever on this piece of vinyl! (See below)

...Following on with the summer theme my mind drifted back to those halcyon days of summer when we were all young and lively and hanging out with a large group of friends. By now Kev and I had left college and were both working but weekends were for fun and parties!

...With the summer season well and truly upon us and Wimbledon in full swing, I thought a blog about tennis might be in order! The game of tennis first started in the Mediaeval days and involved hitting a ball with a bare hand and later with a glove. By the 16th century the glove had become a racquet and the game had moved to an enclosed playing area and the rules had stabilized. This was known as ‘real tennis’. The word tennis came into use in English in the mid-14th century from French, via the Anglo-Norman term Tenez, which can be translated as 'hold', 'receive' or 'take', a call from the server to his opponent indicating that he is about to serve....

...ed the ’76 Club’ in Burton-on-Trent. I talked my boyfriend into taking me (no ID checks in those days) and we went along one Friday night with Kev and the band. It was full of weird and wonderful characters - mainly hippies - and the atmosphere was the usual dark, smoky one except that now the smoke had a funny smell to it. Someone said the drug squad came into the Club ‘in cognito’ and we did see one or two guys wearing long haired wigs and trying to talk the lingo. They really stuck out like a sore thumb!
