Christmas High Jinks!

...t’s the ghost!” she cried.  “The little girl we keep seeing on the landing.” “Urgh really?” queried Gavin, moving further away from the grave. “It must be”, continued Viv.  “She’s the same age, she’s a Meynell and she died in the Victorian days.” Viv stood up triumphantly as she realised that this must be the child’s last resting place.  Then she felt a bit sad as she thought of someone dying so young; it also made the whole ghost thing seem more of a reality now that they’d seen her grave.  Dusk was starting to fall so they made their way back through the graveyard to the iron gate which led into their grounds and soon they we...

...seen this ghost but apparently it is still seen today by staff and guests at the Spa Hotel that the Hall has become! Judging by the way he was dressed I'm guessing it was the old butler who still haunts the Entrance Hall. Now it looked as if we had a ghost at each end of the house. What a night! We were now spending more of our social time in the Meynell Arms, the local pub. Every time we went in everybody wanted an update on what was going on at the Hall with my parents and their quabbles. It was a bit like a local soap opera! We had also become engaged and I stayed at Kev’s house in the week so I could get to work easily having failed my driving test a coup...

...her that ghosts usually disappeared once a house was being lived in again. Viv sincerely hoped so! A week later, despite her vows about going to the attics, Viv was sitting in the den typing her story. Her brother Gavin had come up with her to keep her company but had got bored and gone downstairs again. However, it was a bright, sunny morning this time so Viv wasn’t scared. Suddenly she became aware of a little girl standing near the doorway staring at her. “Hello,” she said. “Who are you?” “Alice,” the child answered. “I’ve come from the west wing.” “Oh, you must be the new tenants,” Viv said, wondering how she had found her way up...

...ere’s a ghost in the pantry Cook!”, she shouted.  “I felt it run by me.” “What nonsense!”, answered Cook.  “It’s just a draught no doubt – it’s meant to be cold to keep the food chilled.” But Molly wasn’t convinced.  When she spoke to other members of staff they said they’d experienced the same thing despite there being nothing wrong with the handle.  After that Molly tried to keep away from the pantry in the evenings and put her mind to more pleasant things like the upcoming Christmas party. A few days later Molly had almost forgotten the ghost in the pantry as the excitement mounted for the party.  Plants had been brought over...

...Welcome to another story based on true facts and things that went bump in the night at Hoar Cross Hall, to get you in the mood for all those Christmas ghost stories you'll be watching this season!  Hope you don't get too scared! The typewriter keys clattered away as Viv wrote her story.  It was coming along nicely and she was feeling pleased with herself.  The attic room that she and her brothers had made into their ‘den’ was ideal for getting away from everybody and having some peace and quiet and she quite forgot about the time as she lost herself in the plot.  Suddenly she looked up and realized how dark it was getting; the December nights were pulli...
