After a couple of years my dad moved to a much bigger house in Burton which had been an old doctors’ surgery that Kev and his family had gone to when Kev was young, ironically! He continued to buy and sell antiques and his interest in motor racing never waned; he often went to local races with his friends. Gavin eventually moved out to live near Norwich with his girlfriend Helen, and they married in 1991. He joined a motor racing team over there and went on to have a very successful career in racing, eventually running his own G...

...th the go-karting with Gavin and this kept them busy at weekends.  However, the whole experience had left him very bitter and he would constantly talk about it whenever we went round to see him, making visits fraught with tension!  However, we carried on with our lives as newly-weds and bought a house in a nearby village.  It was completely empty and needed an oven and washing machine amongst other things.  My dad was keen to help and offered to buy anything he saw at a sale room as he knew he could get them cheap; and that was how we ended up with a 1950s style twin tub washing machine!  Well, it matched the age of the house I suppose!  Many a week whils...

...As mentioned in earlier blogs my dad used to be a racing driver during the 1950s and ran his own team in the 1960s, travelling all over Europe in his trusty Volkswagon van with his two mechanics and driver. He didn’t have big sponsorship money behind him and most of it was done on a shoestring but he came back with lots of funny stories of their van breaking down or some rural ‘hotel’ that they had stayed in. From each country that he visited he always brought me back a doll dressed in the traditional costume of that country.
