...atched in horror as Alice ran right through the double doors and disappeared in front of her eyes. Quickly she stepped back into her room and locked the door. How was she going to sleep now? Her whole body was shaking with fear but after a while she calmed down and decided to sleep in her brothers’ room next door – at least she wouldn’t be on her own. However, she didn’t get much sleep.
“Mrs Meynell is here to see us, children,” Gwynyth called. “Come into the Library and we’ll have a cup of tea and some mince pies.”

...out of a horror film! We all ran like crazy back down the stairs and not long afterwards our friends were running back down the stairs too with stories of weird noises “like furniture dragging on the floor”. They went into one room to see what was going on because “it sounded like a crowd of people talking in there” but all the rooms were empty. As they walked back down the attic corridor they felt people brushing past them and heard the swish of long skirts. This was when they realised there was no power up there and as the candles blew out they panicked and ran around petrified, eventually finding their way back down to the party! We later fou...
