I had no idea he had a plane but climbed aboard and enjoyed a trip to Leeds by air, marvelling at how small everything looked on the ground! Of course I had nothing with me as my suitcase had gone home with my dad and I had to wear my tee shirt and jeans to go out later for a meal in a fancy restaurant. The Hall took nearly 10 years to build and was completed in 1871, although Hugo and Emily had already moved in before that. After their marriage they had lived at Old Hall while a temporary home was being built for them at Cross Hayes, between Yoxall and Hoar Cross and they lived there until their new home was ready.

Delivery was made to Burton-on-Trent by Midland Railway and no doubt the chauffeur from the Hall would have collected it in the car in time for the supper. No nipping out to Sainsbury's in those days!
