...eing that ghost and I hated all those suits of armour looking at me so I would leave the lights on and let my mum switch them off later!  However, if I heard any strange noises in the night at least I could blame the new tenants now and not think about the attic ‘tenants’. Around the back and side of the house was a dry ‘moat’ as we called it.  Not full of water but there to allow light into the basement rooms.  A stone balustrade surrounded it and we loved to walk along the top of it even though it was a long drop if we’d fallen off!  These moats were full of soil and dead leaves which all needed to be cleared and the only way of accessing them w...

...seen the ghost of a man in the Entrance Hall (the same one I had seen many years before) so the house was obviously still haunted! The grounds had had a lot of time spent on them and they were back to how they looked in the Victorian days when the Meynell family first lived there. Whilst filming the rooms it really made me appreciate what a beautiful house this was to live in and how fortunate we were to have such an unusual childhood living here. Not long after we visited in 2005 my mum was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease and died at the age of 73 in 2008 – eight months later my dad died at the age of 92. I often think how strange that they should die...
